Service Pack 2
In order to use the residential network, computers running Windows XP must install Service Pack 2 as part of the network registration process.
What is a Service Pack?
About once a year, Microsoft releases an update to Windows XP. These updates contain all the fixes and enhancements which have been made available in the previous year. The updates (called Service Packs) provide convenient, all-in-one access to the most up-to-date drivers, tools, security updates, patches, and customer-requested product changes.
Service Pack 2 features
Service Pack 2 (SP2) is all about security, and it’s one of the most important service packs ever released. It provides better protection against viruses, hackers, and worms, and includes Windows Firewall, Pop-up Blocker for Internet Explorer, and the new Windows Security Center. These new features are important for keeping all computers on the residential network running safely.
IMPORTANT: Before installing SP2
To avoid potential problems during the installation process, run a Spyware removal tool, check your computer manufacturer for Service Pack 2 updates, and make a back up of your hard drive. For more detailed information, see What to Know Before Installing SP2 from Microsoft.com.
