Spybot

SpyBot Search & Destroy is an application for Windows that helps protect against spyware.
We recommend using SpyBot Search & Destroy (or Ad-Aware) to keep your computer Spyware-free.

How to Install Spybot:

  1. Click Here to download Spybot to your Desktop.
     
  2. Next, open the file spybotsd(version number).exe located on your Desktop.
     
  3. Proceed through the installation process.
     
  4. When prompted, deselect the check box for Use system settings protection (Tea Timer). It is more of an annoyance than a help.

How to update Spybot (without an Internet connection):

  1. Click Here to download the Spybot definitions from a computer in the nearest lab and save them to a flash drive in order to get them to your computer.
     
  2. Double-click the spybotsd_includes.exe file that was just downloaded to your Desktop. If you are prompted about running the file, choose to run it.
     

  3. Click install in the bottom right.
     
  4. Once the installation has completed choose close. You can now delete the spybotsd_includes.exe file that is on your Desktop, it is no longer needed.

Use Spybot to scan for spyware:

  1. Once you have downloaded and installed Spybot – Search and Destory, open it by double-clicking the icon on the Desktop or by finding it in your programs menu.
     
  2. Click the search for updates button to be sure you have the latest definitions before beginning the scan.
     

  3. Once the update is finished click immunize in the left panel.
     

  4. If anything shows up in the unprotected column click the immunize button up top.
     
  5. After the immunization is done click on the search & destroy button in the panel on the left and then check for problems. The scan will take awhile so letting it run while away from the computer might be ideal.
     


  6. When the scan has finished, if it found anything, all objects will be listed and automatically selected. Click fix selected problems to remove all the spyware that was found.
     

  7. Close the program. Your computer is now spyware free. Run Spybot every week to keep your computer clean and your bandwidth use efficient.
