Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

How to install Malwarebytes:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from download.com by searching for “Malwarebytes.” Save it to your Desktop.
  2. Next, open the file mbam-setup.exe located on your Desktop.
  3. Proceed through the installation process.
  4. Make sure the check boxes to update and launch Malwarebytes are both checked and click finish. Once installation is finished you can delete the file mbam-setup.exe that is on your Desktop.

How to update Malwarebytes without an Internet connection:

  1. Click here to download the latest definitions and save them to your Desktop.
  2. Double-click the file mbam-rules.exe located on your Desktop. If you are prompted about running the file, choose to run it.
  3. Once the installation is finished, you can delete the file mbam-rules.exe file that is on your Desktop, it is no longer needed.

How to use Malwarebytes to scan for spyware:

  1. Once you have downloaded and installed Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, open it by double-clicking the icon on the Desktop or by finding it in your programs menu.
  2. Click on the update tab, then check for updates to be sure you have the latest definitions before beginning the scan.

  3. After the update is finished, click the scanner tab.
  4. Choose which type of scan you want to do and click the scan button. A full scan is suggested if this is your first time using the program and if your computer is heavily infected with spyware and/or viruses. For more regular, preventative scans, a quick scan may be sufficient.
  5. You will be prompted to select what drives on your computer to scan. The correct drives may already be selected. If not, normally your hard drive is labeled as C:\. You can double check by looking in My Computer (Computer for Vista users). Click start scan after the correct drives are selected.

  6. The scan might take awhile, but when it is finished it will say how many infected objects it found. Click on show results to see the infections.


  7. Make sure the files found are checked and click on the remove selected button. A log file will pop up which shows what files were removed. It’s automatically saved in case it’s needed in the future, so you can close it.

  8. Finally, you will be prompted to restart your computer. It is suggested that you do it now in order to finish the cleaning process.
