Server Admin

The Server Administrator is responsible for maintaining the servers that support the residential network. ResTek manages a network of over 5,000 nodes, so this job involves working with critical networking equipment and trying to achieve 100% uptime. In collaboration with other members of the team, this person is also generally responsible for the research and implementation of improvements to the network.

Am I qualified?

We’re looking for somebody who has experience working with some of these things, but you also learn a lot on the job. If you meet most of the following criteria, you should definitely apply.

  • Experience working with UNIX-like systems (e.g., Linux)
  • Understanding of common network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SMTP)
  • Understanding of network configurations
  • Programming experience is a plus
  • Motivated to learn new things independently
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment effectively
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Willingness and availability to have a flexible, on-call schedule for the duration of employment

Terms

Must be available to work 15-19 hours per week during the academic year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer. Hourly wage is $9.90 per hour for both work-study and non-work study students. You must maintain a 2.00 GPA minimum during employment, and be taking at least 10 credits (8 for graduates). Preference given to applicants that live on-campus currently and intend to live on for the 2009-2010 academic year. Summer on-campus housing is available at a discounted rate.
