Consultant – Windows Specialist
Job description
The Windows Specialist provides advanced support to ResTek staff and residents in their troubleshooting of Windows XP/Vista related problems. The Windows Specialist will be relied upon to tackle particularly unusual or difficult connection problems and serve as the primary resource on Windows related topics. Some support of the hardware and software in the computer labs will be required.
Responsibilities
In addition to the general consultant responsibilities, the Windows Specialist must also:
- Keep up-to-date with Windows related vulnerabilities, security patches, and new releases
- Troubleshoot the more advanced and complex Answerline tickets relating to Windows connection issues, spyware and viruses
- Conduct research when necessary to find fixes to resolve resident’s computer issues
- Assist and educate ResTek staff on Windows issues and associated fixes
- Collect existing tools to fix Windows related issues and train staff on their use
Additional qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of connectivity components within Windows XP/Vista
- Advanced knowledge and experience troubleshooting network connection issues
- Knowledge of virus protection and prevention programs, including settings for each of the brands of programs
- Intermediate knowledge of software needed to support residential students’ academic needs
- Experience configuring McAfee Virus Scan on Windows machines
Consultant- Virus/SPAM Specialist
Job description
Due the massive amounts of new viruses that spread through campus, we have at least one consultant position that is designated to focus on virus issues. This position includes learning how to detect, remove, and prevent viruses on students’ computers. The Virus/SPAM specialist works with confidential information must maintain a high level of ethics and confidentiality when working with the students.
Responsibilities
In addition to the general consultant responsibilities, the Virus/SPAM Specialist must also:
- Monitor the types and frequency of new and continuing viruses present on the residential network and resident’s computers
- Work collaboratively with ResTek staff on issues of education of users, prevention techniques, and virus removal on resident’s computers
- Proactively work with ResTek staff to prevent virus infections on the residential network and resident’s computers
- Research virus allegations and work with residents to clean the offending computers
- Block student Internet connections when appropriate to prevent virus infected machines from infecting other student machines on the network
- Maintain a high level of ethic and uphold confidentiality guidelines when accessing resident’s information and Internet access
Additional qualifications
- Experience using linux or willingness to learn
- Experience programming using PHP or willingness to learn
- Experience cleaning Windows computers of common viruses
- Familiarity with third party virus cleaning tools (Norton, AVG, McAfee)
- Ability to investigate and access resources (online and in person) to gain further knowledge
- Ability to explain, in simple terms, the affects of a virus on a resident’s computer and to motivate residents to be diligent in protecting their computer from virus infections
